THE BLOG
When we think of brave Catholic women, we tend to think of those who lived extraordinary lives, fighting outwardly for Christ and heroically facing the consequences and possible martyrdom for their actions. We think of St. Joan of Arc who led armies and refused to deny her revelations from God; St. Catherine of Siena who corrected the pope himself; St. Francis Cabrini or any of the other sisters who traversed the globe and braved new lands, dedicating their lives to bringing the gospel to others.
The good Lord does not do things by halves; He always gives what we need.
Let us then carry on bravely!
-St. Zélie Martin

But what about those of us who live ordinary lives? Those of us whose days are filled with dishes, laundry and diaper changes don't often encounter opportunities for grand acts of heroism. Instead, motherhood requires a kind of everyday bravery that is often overlooked. As a brand new mom to a vivacious and ferocious little daughter, I am discovering firsthand and for the first time the bravery which is required of mothers. I am learning to face down the many unexpected challenges this first year has asked of me, and to cling to God in a way I have never experienced before. Thankfully, there are many heroic mothers who have gone before me to light the way- most especially my patron saint, St. Zélie Martin. This blog will follow my growing family's journey and many obstacles, and will reflect on St. Zélie and other influential women helping me along the way.
ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Melanie- I am a lover of yarn, books, coffee and babies. I have been happily married to my handsome husband Paul for over four years, and am a new mom to our little daughter, Josephine Marie. We live outside of Seattle with our dachshund, chickens and vegetable patch, bewildering our friends and family with our ever-increasing farm-like tendencies. Our Catholic faith and parish community are central to our lives and have helped us to survive these first years of marriage and parenthood.
